Words to Ponder, Luke 5:31-32

Jesus answered them, “Healthy people don’t need a doctor—sick people do. I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners and need to repent.”

(From the New Living Translation via BibleGateway)

These verses were part of the Good Morning Girls study today. We’re reading through the first eight chapters of Luke in eight weeks, with a smaller amount to reflect on each day. The phrase that stood out to me here was “who think they are righteous.” So often rationalising negative behaviours or attitudes leads me to think that I’m “all that” and I may even start to look down on others following different paths in life. The reality of the Christian life is that our thoughts and actions don’t make us any better, but the One we choose to follow transforms our lives and makes something broken into beauty.
